Pros & Cons

MERLOT

http://www.merlot.org/artifact/BrowseArtifacts.po?catcode=58&browsecat=58&sort=rating

Education portion.  Many good and varied sites.  Main site is not being maintained currently so watch out for broken links.  Still enough good links to make it worth the trouble.

Character Education Lessons

http://www.character-education.info/

Lots of good information on teaching character.  You may have to search for it in what is available free.  Does require low cost subscription to use entire site.

BillÕs Interactive Classroom

http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Parthenon/9502/Bill1.html

Interesting website that has a lot of interactive materials already made and ready to use.  Materials are targeted to 8th grade.

Goodcharacter.com

http://www.goodcharacter.com/

Some excellent character education materials.  Covers information for K-12.  Does try to sell some materials.

http://www.nationalgeographic.com/education/

Lots of good interactive information sites, especially maps.  Focus is on geography and the natural world.

http://www.edu-source.com/

Some very nice lesson plans on animals and the environment aligned to the Arizona State Standards.  Somewhat limited.

Lots of free downloadables.  Includes areas for band, choir, and orchestra. Just for music though

General Education Site

Education Index 13

http://www.education-higher-directory.com/education/13/index.html

Pros & Cons

Free Power Point Backgrounds

http://www.websiteestates.com/education/templatesindex.html

Samples of free backgrounds geared to educators and students.  Some very nice backgrounds.  Also some nice articles on creating PowerPoint presentations. Must pay for entire collection.

PhyllisÕs Backgrounds

http://www.eskimo.com/~physmith/Backgrounds.html

Backgrounds are free to download for non-profit purposes.  Not all are educationally appropriate.

ClipArt/

Backgrounds

http://www.edselect.com/clipart.htm

A list of sites that allow free use of clip art and backgrounds for educational use.  Have to read each sites disclaimers etc. to be able to use them

The TeacherÕs Guide to Free Clip Art

http://www.theteachersguide.com/Freebies.html

More juvenile appearing site but has some nice sites listed.  Primary sites listed designed more for a k-6 teacher than for student use

Boogie Jack.com

http://www.boogiejack.com/free_graphics.html

A nice selection of web graphics.  When you click on the background graphic gives you a preview as well as shows what color fonts look like on it.  Also so has a selection of ready-made buttons, banners, and other graphics. Front page is not nice looking and may be difficult for some students to navigate

Educational Video Clips

Internet Archive:  Moving Images

http://www.archive.org/details/movies

Lots of free video clips for use in the classroom including clips from newsreels played in the movie theaters.  Need to be careful because there are open source portions that may not be appropriate for students
