Are You Ready for a Vacation? By Becky Downing http://coe.west.asu.edu/students/bdowning/wquest/index.htm

Intermediate or Middle School Math students

Are You Ready for a Vacation? is a great WebQuest for students to learn how to plan a trip. This WebQuest allows the students to learn how to budget their money and make decisions that real people make everyday.  They are able to work alone or in small groups and are each allotted $1,200 to spend.  They use the internet to find the costs of travel, accommodations, and places to visit.  An Excel spreadsheet is used to help with their budget. In the end, the students also create a brochure highlighting their trip.

Invitation to the Game by Patti Wann

http://coe.west.asu.edu/students/pwann/itgwq/index.htm

5th Grade Science students

Invitation to the Game is a very interesting WebQuest involving deciphering codes and secret missions.  Once the codes are cracked (which may be challenging), the students must research information about Mars and find out if life really could exist based on a variety of things (based on the standards, of course!).  The entire activity is futuristic and the kids would eat it up.

How Does Your Body Work? by Michelle Olshan

http://www.west.asu.edu/achristie/548/02WQ/michelle/HUMAN_SY.HTM

5th Grade Science students

How Does Your Body Work? is a fairly simple WebQuest designed for groups of students to become experts on one of the human body systems.  They are required to make a PowerPoint presentation to present their findings to the class.  The activity is extremely straightforward - sometimes less is more!

5th Grade Social Studies/Language students

Explorers is a WebQuest for students to learn about one of the featured explorers in the 5th grade curriculum: Christopher Columbus, Hernan Cortes, or John Cabot.  The students research their explorer and write a short essay.  They also create a Captain s Chest, which includes objects, journal entries, and more.  There is a nice variety of activities to hit all learning styles.

Island Colonization by Brenda Huff

http://teacherweb.com/TW/TaipeiAmericanSchool/IslandColonizationWebquest/index.html

3rd-5th Grade Social Studies/Language Arts

Island Colonization is a creative WebQuest that allows students to make decisions based on the discovery of a new island.  The students work in groups and have to persuade others to either colonize the new land or not.  A letter is written, along with a form of presentation.  The students must research early colonization to base their persuasions on actual facts.  The students have a fair amount of freedom for this project.

America Then and Now: Learning About Colonial America by Jane Sabini http://webquest.org/questgarden/lessons/05020-051016101749/

5th Grade Social Studies students

America Then and Now: Learning About Colonial America is a WebQuest that features students comparing their lives with those of kids of Colonial America.  They must create webs using Inspiration to outline their typical day and a typical day of a student in the early 1700s.  They then must write two journal entries - one factual, and the other historically accurate, which is where the research comes in.  The kids will be able to comprehend the differences between the past and today (and hopefully appreciate what they have a little more too!).
